This painting represents the act of surrendering to God in the form of a “ultralight beam.” Since the term “surrender” implies a battle term, in which all rights are given up to the conqueror, the act of surrendering to God works the same. Surrendering the totality of oneself entails setting aside our plans, seeking a deeper intimacy with God, and trusting God’s plan. The “ultralight beam” renews our minds - helping to let go of control, worry, money, relationships, the future - while focusing on the contentment of today, rather than our eyes wandering towards what lies ahead tomorrow.
This was one of those paintings in which I had the title before I knew what I was going to paint. Inspired by the Kanye West song, this painting helps the viewer let go of the past and focus on making room for the goodness, grace, and favor that God provides us.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” Matthew 6:34
